John B. Vertrees is an Art Director and Set Designer for feature films, prime-time television and theatre. Most recently working as Art Director on Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” for Disney/ABC.
Other television credits include TNT’s drama “Mob City” directed by Frank Darabont, NBC’s primetime comedy “Community” and History Channel’s “Hatfields & McCoys” mini-series for which John received an Emmy nomination for outstanding art direction.
Set Design work includes the television series “Magic City”, “Code Black”, “House M.D.”, “CSI: Miami ”, “Leverage”, “Medium”, “Colony”, “The List”, VH1’s “Hit The Floor”, “The Asset”, HBO’s “Hello Ladies” & “RUN, and Apple’s “Are You Sleeping”.
Feature Films include Oliver Stone’s feature “W”, CBS Films “Extraordinary Measures” starring Harrison Ford and Brendon Fraser, Gus Van Sant’s “Restless” and other productions for NBC/Universal, Fox Television, Warner Bros., ABC, CBS/Paramount, Cartoon Network and Disney/Touchstone.
John has also worked as a design assistant on professional theatrical productions in Japan, Ford’s Theatre Washington DC, Pittsburgh Public Theatre and Shaftsbury Theatre London England.
The Art Director’s primary function is to support and follow through on the visual concepts for the production as specified by the Production Designer and Director. That support includes a combination of both creative and management skills.
